There’s so much to see and do over the course of the weekend, you won’t know where to start! Highlights include the Nightgown Parade, raft race and impressive firework display!

Friday 16th August

Nightgown Parade

The weekend kicks off with the famous Nightgown Parade. Every year the lifeboat crew, visitors and locals don their favourite nightwear before walking through the village and up the cobbled high street, accompanied by a tuneful jazz band. Don’t forget to pack your nightgown if you want to join in!

Saturday 17th August

Lifeboat demonstration

Daytime activities will begin on Saturday 17th August 2024 – starting with a lifeboat display. Every year the team of courageous volunteers set up a mock rescue to demonstrate their skills and promote the importance of safety at sea. The brand-new Shannon class lifeboat will be joined by neighbouring lifeboats and partner search and rescue agencies.

Raft Race

Later on, head to the Lifeboat slipway to watch teams vie to be crowned winners of the annual raft race. You’ll see a host of homemade contraptions take to the water to be in with a shot at the title. This event makes great viewing and guarantees some laughs!

Firework display

The evening concludes with live music on the harbourside and an impressive fireworks display! Tasty barbeque food will be available to purchase if you’re feeling peckish!

Sunday 18th August

Sunday is a quieter affair. In the morning the popular duck race will take place on the Lifeboat Slipway. Watch as hundreds of rubber ducks are released into the water. Stand on the bridge over the beck and watch as they float towards the finish line!

You can enter the duck race by registering at the designated stall on the Staith. You need to do this on Saturday 17th August.

The RNLI Lifeboat Weekend will conclude with two moving thanksgiving services with music.
