Help the RNLI raise much needed funds by attending the Whitby Lifeboat Station Flag Weekend. This annual fundraising event is great fun for all the family and is a fantastic opportunity to refresh your water safety skills – vital for any beach holiday on the North Yorkshire Coast.
Head to Dock End to browse the stalls, which will include a tombola, RNLI gifts and books. You’ll also have the chance to meet volunteer crew and learn more about the importance respecting the water.
Lifejacket Clinic
Boat owners and water sports enthusiasts will have the opportunity to attend the free lifejacket clinic during the event. Here the RNLI will show you how to properly maintain your life jacket to help keep it in good working on order. They will teach you how to perform regular checks and look for signs of wear and tear.
Lifeboat demonstration
During the weekend both the inshore and all-weather lifeboat will be on display in the station, providing an up close look at these important pieces of kit. A lifeboat has operated out of Whitby for more than 200 years and the station is testament to the men and women who volunteer their time to save lives at sea.
The highlight of the Whitby Lifeboat Station Flag Weekend is the lifeboat demonstration. Watch the volunteer crew take to the water to showcase the capabilities of this fantastic vessel in a mock rescue situation! We recommend heading to the West Pier for the best vantage point!
