Around 10 miles South West of our park you will find the quaint little village of Goathland. With sheep roaming the paths and beautiful scenery, you will forget about the outside world while you spend time perusing around this iconic location.
Only a 20 minute drive away from the hustle and bustle of Whitby town centre, Goathland is a change of ambience. It is regularly referred to as ‘Heartbeat Country’ thanks to its many filming locations for the famous British Series such as the Aidensfield Arms, the Car Garage and the Post Office plus many more local locations. You will still see some of the original cars used for filming around the village too.
After a short walk down the hill to Goathland Train Station you may feel like you’ve seen it before. This was the set used as Hogsmeade Station in the infamous Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Potter Heads can’t miss this opportunity to take a photo where Harry first steps foot near Hogwarts and where Hagrid waves the Hogwarts Express away at the end.
Food and Drink is very easy to find in Goathland. The Mallyan Spout Hotel boasts a menu of locally sourced ingredients from fresh Whitby Fish to speciality Cheeses. For a lighter bite you may fancy the centrally located Goathland Tea Rooms where you will find delicious home made baking and a classic Yorkshire cream tea. Or if you fancy something really special, The Homestead Kitchen offers a Michelin starred dining experience in a beautiful converted 18th Century Farmhouse.
Goathland really has something to offer for all different hobbies; walking, trains, film sets and food just to name a few. You are sure to have a lovely day out when visiting this famous village.
