The Fish and Ship Festival is an annual event that celebrates Whitby’s rich maritime heritage and established fishing industry. Over the course of the weekend the town will play host to an exciting programme of events, which showcase the lives of our seafaring community and the important role they play in putting Whitby’s world class seafood on the map!
Cookery demonstrations
If you’d like to hone your skills in the kitchen, head to Seafood Kitchen Marquee where you can watch live cooking demonstrations from some of the best names in the business. On Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th May an exciting roster of celebrity and local chefs will take to the stage to help you perfect a range of seafood dishes and learn the tricks of the trade!
If watching the pros cook up a storm in the kitchen leave you peckish, there’s no need to worry! You’ll find a range of stalls along Endeavour Wharf and the Fish Quay, where you can sample a range of freshly caught seafood and pick up some tasty treats to enjoy back at our coastal holiday park.
There will also be opportunities to buy nautical themed gifts from local traders – the perfect souvenir to take home!
Children’s activities
Throughout the day walk about acts will be roaming the harbourside providing some light hearted entertainment. Younger members of the family can enjoy trampolining, get their face painted or try their hand at balloon making alongside a host of crafts and interactive games.
Attractions throughout the town usually host tours and workshops if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the harbour side. Head to the RNLI Lifeboat Station, Captain Cook Museum or the Lobster Hatchery for more maritime themed fun!
In previous years, local theatre companies have performed a series of short plays, which centre around the sea. This year’s productions have not yet been announced, but we’ll be sure to update this page as and when information becomes available.
On both days of the festival there will be a variety of live music on offer in the music marquee and at venues throughout the town centre. Join in the singalong and learn a sea shanty or two!
The festival has a licensed bar in a Harbourside Marquee. There’s usually a fantastic atmosphere and a mix of local ales to try!
Full programme of events to be released soon
